What luxury actually means here
Japan has extraordinary hotels, and a great many people pay for them and still have an ordinary trip. The reason is that in Japan the expensive decision and the correct decision are frequently different.
A suite in the wrong Tokyo district costs you an hour a day. A famous restaurant with an English booking page is often the less interesting one. A private car between cities is slower and five times the price of the train. Knowing which is which is the work.
What this covers
- Hotels and ryokan — chosen for the room and the district, not the star rating, with the trade-offs explained
- Tables that are difficult to secure — including counters that take reservations only by telephone, in Japanese
- Private access — tea ceremonies, workshops, gardens and after-hours visits arranged where they genuinely add something
- Precise daily logistics — transfers, timings, luggage forwarded ahead so you never carry a case onto a train
- Personal support in Japan — someone reachable in your timezone when something changes
Who this is for
- Travellers who value their time more than the saving
- Honeymoons, anniversaries and milestone trips
- Repeat visitors who have done the obvious version and want the next one
- Anyone who wants a private journey rather than a group tour or a package
What it is not
This is not a tour operator. You are not buying a package with the travel marked up inside it. There is no coach, no fixed departure and no group.
You pay a design fee for the planning and reservation work. Everything else — hotels, meals, transport — you book in your own name and pay directly, at the provider's own rate.
A recent example
Twelve days for two travellers across Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and Nara: four hotels, nine reservations secured, two Michelin-starred tables, Green Car rail throughout, luggage forwarded on every long move, and changes handled on the ground while they were here.
You can read that journey in full, including what was booked and why.
