Design fee from $799
Most honeymoons fall between $799 and $2,500+, depending on trip length, number of destinations, reservation volume and the level of in-trip support required. Hotels, meals and transport are booked in your own names and paid directly by you.
What makes a honeymoon different
A honeymoon is not a shorter version of a normal trip. The mistake we see most often is a first-time itinerary — five cities, a temple every morning — applied to two people who have just spent a year planning a wedding.
What works is fewer places, later mornings, and two or three evenings that are genuinely memorable. The rest of the days should be open.
Who this suits
- First-time visitors to Japan, where the shape of the trip matters most
- Couples in their twenties to forties travelling privately, not on a tour
- Journeys through Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka — and where to slow down within them
- Couples whose hotels are already booked and who need the rest arranged
- Anniversaries and proposals as well as honeymoons
What is arranged
Where you stayRooms chosen for the view, the bath and the quiet — not the star rating.A ryokan with a private onsen bath is usually worth two nights of the trip.
Romantic restaurantsIncluding counters that take reservations only by telephone, in Japanese. We tell the restaurant it is your honeymoon when that is welcome, and stay quiet when it is not.
Special experiencesA private tea ceremony, a garden before opening, a boat at dusk.Arranged where they genuinely add something, not to fill a day.
Anniversary requestsFlowers, a cake, a room note, a photographer for an hour.Handled in Japanese, in advance, so nothing depends on the night.
Book earlier than you think. Ryokan with private open-air baths often hold twelve rooms in total. For cherry blossom in late March and April, or autumn foliage in November, the good ones are gone six to nine months ahead. If your dates fall in either season, that is the first thing to solve.
A shape that works
Tokyo · 3–4 nightsArrive, adjust, and do one thing a day.The first day is for a bath and an early dinner near the hotel.
Hakone or Mt Fuji · 2 nightsA ryokan with a private bath and kaiseki in your room.Luggage forwarded ahead to Kyoto.
Kyoto · 4–5 nightsHigashiyama at dusk, one car day, and an unhurried kaiseki evening. This is where the trip slows down.
Osaka · 1–2 nightsOr one long evening from Kyoto, then home from Kansai. No backtrack to Tokyo.
The full version of this route, with what to book and when, is set out in our 14-day itinerary.
If your hotels are already booked
Many couples book the hotels first — often a year ahead — and then discover the restaurants are the hard part. If that is you, the route and the stays stay exactly as you planned them and we handle the reservations through Booking Coordination instead.
